Heartbeat December 2023 Edition
13 December 2022
Following on from the success of our Business of Beef lunch in Brisbane we’re bringing it to Toowoomba in February 2023.
Please join us as we grow stronger communities together by supporting our Business Fundraising Lunch.
Our guest speaker is Mort & Co Executive Chairman Charlie Mort.
Charlie re-established Mort & Co in 1997, and it has since grown to become one of the largest and most respected managers of lot fed cattle in Australia, achieving revenues of over $700 million.
Currently, Mort & Co runs two feedlots: Grassdale (Dalby) and Pinegrove (Millmerran). With a combined capacity of 90,000hd, the business turns over in excess of 215,000 cattle annually.
Taking a forward-thinking approach, the company quickly developed an integrated vertical supply chain model which allowed it to create a ‘circular economy’ … long before it became a hot sustainability topic.
It also allows them to produce some of Australia’s most sought after beef through the careful control of each aspect of the business… from cattle procurement and backgrounding to transportation, farming, lot feeding, beef processing, marketing – and most recently, a unique carbon-based organic granule fertiliser sourced from the feedlots.
But like every Australian success story, it comes with its own fair share of battles.
From export challenges to international bovine disease, major fluctuations in beef prices and a global pandemic, Mort & Co’s story is one of mateship, innovation, risk taking and an unwavering focus on producing the best Australian product possible.
Please join us for lunch to hear their story and enjoy a culinary experience showcasing their multi-award winning beef. This is a great chance to come together to support some of the most vulnerable people in our community and we're looking forward to seeing you there.
