2023/2024 People First Bank Annual Review
This financial year, the Foundation (including Sub-Funds) donated $300,164 to 28 amazing charities in support of people in need.
The People First Bank Foundation has today opened applications for the Weis Community Fund, giving charities who support the Darling Downs the chance to share in $40,000 in grants.
Funded by Unilever and operated by the People First Bank Foundation, the Weis Community Fund was created to allow charities to help build a stronger Darling Downs region.
The Fund continues the legacy left behind by the 60-year tenure in Toowoomba of the Weis Ice Cream factory, which was a proud part of the Darling Downs community.
Grant funding supports programs that lead to employment, foster innovation, promote sustainable farming, and develop the next generation of local entrepreneurs in the agri-foods sector.
With a total of $40,000 available, the number and size of grants awarded will be based on the impact and community benefits of the applications. This means one large grant, or several smaller grants may be funded. Charities can apply for a minimum of $5,000 up to a maximum of $40,000.
People First Bank Foundation Executive Officer Paul Olds said the Foundation was proud to launch the second round of Weis Community Fund grants.
“Through the creation of the Weis Community Fund, the Foundation has gratefully accepted the responsibility to ensure the Weis brand continues to be a contributor to the region’s economic development,” Mr Olds said.
"The Fund provides a special opportunity for us to collaborate with community organisations to support impactful local programs that strengthen the region where Weis Ice Cream was born.
“With the Foundation also having strong ties to the Darling Downs, we are truly excited to lead the Fund’s impact in the region.”
Eligible not-for-profit organisations can apply via the People First Bank Foundation website at: peoplefirstbankfoundation.org.au/apply/weis-community-grants. Full details of eligibility can be found there as well.
Applications close 5pm AEST Friday 21 March 2025.
The Foundation will notify the successful recipients in early April 2025.
